Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese mitsuba.

Etymology: < Japanese mitsuba (1674 in this sense; also 1604 as mitçuba in the supplement to Vocabulario da Lingoa de Iapam with a general sense ‘triple leaf’) < mitsu- three (see mitsumata n.) + -ba, combining form of ha leaf.

Japanese honewort, a small leafy perennial herb, Cryptotaenia japonica (family Apiaceae ( Umbelliferae)), native to eastern Asia, esp. Japan, where it is frequently used to flavour and garnish food.
