单词 | micropolyphony |
释义 | micropolyphonyn. Music. The compositional style chiefly associated with the Hungarian-born composer György Ligeti (1923–2006), and characterized by multiple intricate polyphonic parts. ΚΠ 1976 Listener 12 Feb. 183/3 Ligeti's gimmick (I think that is the right word) is his technique of ‘micropolyphony’, which involves combining large numbers of tiny strands of music to create a complex and elusive texture of constantly shifting sonorities. 1983 P. Griffiths György Ligeti 56 Ligeti wrote an unaccompanied setting for sixteen voices of another passage from the mass for the dead, Lux Aeterna. Once again the technique is that of spreading chromatic ‘micro-polyphony’. 1994 M. Kenneth Oxf. Dict. Music (ed. 2) 510/2 His orch. writing uses precisely calculated textures and dense (but not thick) scoring, deriving ultimately from Webern (Ligeti's term is ‘micropolyphony’). This is a new entry (OED Third Edition, December 2001; most recently modified version published online March 2022). < n.1976 |
