Etymology: < Latin *mīmiambus, inferred singular of classical Latin mīmiambī, plural < Hellenistic Greek μιμίαμβοι , plural (recorded only from the 5th cent., i.e. Byzantine Greek, but as the title of poems by Herodas, an author of the 3rd cent. b.c.) < ancient Greek μῖμος mime n.1 + ἴαμβοι , plural of ἴαμβος iambus n.Classical Latin mīmiambī is used to denote the verses of the 1st-cent. b.c. poet Matius, composed in imitation of Herodas.

A mime written in iambic verse, a genre invented by the Hellenistic poet Herodas.
