Etymology: < German Mimetit (W. Haidinger Handb. der bestimmenden Mineral. (1845) 503) < French mimét- (in mimétèse mimetese n.) + German -it -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A hexagonal arsenate and chloride of lead of the apatite group, Pb₅(AsO₄)₃Cl, which forms a series with pyromorphite and occurs as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zones of lead deposits.
