Origin: Probably a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek μιμέο- , -graph comb. form.
Etymology: Probably < ancient Greek μιμέο- (in μιμέομαι , 1st person singular of μιμεῖσθαι to imitate: see mime v.) + -graph comb. form.
1. A duplicating machine which produces copies from a stencil. Frequently attributive.The term is not used in Edison's patents; the machine is now largely superseded by the photocopier.
