Etymology: < micro- comb. form + -graphy comb. form. Compare French micrographie (1665), and post-classical Latin micrographia in work titles (compare R. Hooke Micrographia (1665)); frequently in phrases, such as micrographia nova , micrographia illustrata , etc.). Compare medieval Greek μικρογραϕία writing (a word) with a short vowel. With sense 2 compare macrography n.
