Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Mikroklin.
Etymology: < German Mikroklin (A. Breithaupt 1830, in Jrnl. f. Chem. u. Physik 60 324) < mikro- micro- comb. form + ancient Greek κλιν- (in κλίνειν to incline: see clino- comb. form), as indicating slight deviation from orthorhombic symmetry. Compare pericline n.
Mineralogy.
A triclinic potassium feldspar dimorphous with orthoclase, forming large translucent crystals of a green, reddish, or grey colour, and characteristic of granites and pegmatites.
