单词 microchemistry
释义

microchemistryn.

Brit. /ˌmʌɪkrə(ʊ)ˈkɛmᵻstri/, U.S. /ˌmaɪkroʊˈkɛməstri/
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: micro- comb. form, chemistry n.
Etymology: < micro- comb. form + chemistry n. Compare French microchimie (1868 in Littré). R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1857) gives a Latin form microchemia , a French form microchémie , and a German form Mikrochemie (not otherwise attested this early); his attribution of the word to Döbereiner (presumably J. W. Döbereiner) has not been verified. Compare microchemical adj. and earlier microchemically adv.
Originally: chemistry applied to the study of microscopic objects, esp. cells and tissues; histochemistry; the use of the microscope in chemistry. Later: a branch of chemistry that uses techniques modified to deal with very small quantities of reagents (cf. microanalysis n.).
