Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: micro- comb. form, -cephalic comb. form.
Etymology: < micro- comb. form + -cephalic comb. form, after microcephalia n. Compare German microcephalisch, mikrocephalisch (1861 in Zeitschr. f. rationelle Medicin 11 211).R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1857 at sense A. 1) also lists a Latin form microcephalicus and a French form microcéphalique. N.E.D. (1906) gives only the pronunciation (məikrosĭfæ·lik) /maɪkrəʊsɪˈfælɪk/.
