Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mérologie.
Etymology: < French mérologie (C. Robin Tableaux d'anat. (1851) 14) < classical Latin merus mere adj.2 + French -ologie -ology comb. form. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (mĕrǫ·lŏdʒi) /məˈrɒlədʒɪ/.
Medicine. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
A branch of anatomy dealing with the fundamental tissues and fluids of the body.

1857 R. Dunglison Med. Lexicon (rev. ed.) 586/2 Merology, the branch of anatomy, which treats of the elementary constituents of the tissues and humours of the organism.
1891 New Sydenham Soc. Lexicon Merology, general anatomy, or that portion which treats of the elementary tissues and fluids of the body.
