Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin mētātor.
Etymology: < classical Latin mētātor person who measures or marks out (a camp, etc.) < mētāt- , past participial stem of mētārī (see metation n.) + -or -or suffix. Compare Middle French metateur (a1506).
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
A person who sets things in order; one who marks out or measures land, as for a camp.
