Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Miascit.
Etymology: < German Miascit (G. Rose 1839, in Ann. der Physik u. Chem. 47 376) < Miask (now Miass ), the name of a town on the river Miass in the Urals, where the rock was first obtained + German -it -ite suffix1. Compare earlier miascite n.In his description of this rock, Rose does not mention the earlier use of miascite n. as the name of a mineral.
Geology.
Any mottled black and white nepheline-syenite that also contains oligoclase, microperthite, and biotite.
