A carbamate compound with sedative properties, used chiefly in the treatment of anxiety disorders and as a muscle relaxant; 2-methyl-2-propyl-1,3-propanediol dicarbamate, C9H18N2O4.Proprietary names for this drug include Miltown and Equanil.As an anxiolytic, this drug has now been largely superseded by the benzodiazepines, in part because of their somewhat lower risk of problems with dependence.
