meowint.

Brit. /mɪˈaʊ/, U.S. /miˈaʊ/
Forms: see meow v.
Origin: An imitative or expressive formation.
Etymology: Imitative. Similar representations of the cry of a cat (and corresponding nouns and verbs) are very widespread in numerous languages: compare e.g. German miau , Spanish miau , Russian mjau , Turkish miyav , Finnish miau , Chinese miāo , etc. The spellings with -ao- are probably partly after French miaou (1619; 1552 in Middle French as myault ; compare Old French miauwer to miaow (1288)). Compare miaul v., and also mew v.1 and mewl v.
Representing the characteristic cry of a cat. In later use also as an exclamation implying spite or ‘cattiness’ in the person addressed (cf. cat n.1 2a).
