Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: meta- prefix, logical adj.
Etymology: < meta- prefix + logical adj. In sense 1 after German metalogisch (A. Schopenhauer Über die vierfache Wurzel des Satzes vom zureichenden Grunde (1813) v. §33). In sense 2 after metalogic n.
Philosophy.
1. That lies outside the scope or boundaries of logical analysis; spec. that exists prior to or at a more fundamental level than conceptual understanding.
