Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek μεσῳδός < ancient Greek μεσο- meso- comb. form + ᾠδή ode n.
Classical Prosody.
A part of a Greek choral ode coming between the strophe and the antistrophe and having no counterpart. Also in extended use.
