A member of a Protestant sect which emphasizes adult baptism and rejects Church organization, military service, and public office.The Mennonites originated as an Anabaptist group in Friesland c1530 under the leadership of Menno Simons (or Simonszoon; see etymology) and now live principally in the United States and Canada. Some Mennonites, known as Old Order Mennonites and living mainly in Pennsylvania and south-western Ontario, do not use modern technology (electricity, motor transport, etc.) and dress in black.
