Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Mennecy.

Etymology: < Mennecy, the name of a town in northern France, south of Paris, where a distinctive kind of porcelain was manufactured between 1748 and 1773.The manufacture of this porcelain began at the factory founded in Paris by Louis-François de Neufville, duc de Villeroy in 1734. In 1748, the concern moved to Mennecy, and in 1773 to Bourg-la-Reine. Porcelain production continued here until c1780, when the factory turned to the manufacture of earthenware until its closure in 1806.
