Etymology: < metro- comb. form2 + -meter comb. form2, after French métromètre (1732). N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (metrǫ·mĭtəɹ) /mɛˈtrɒmɪtə(r)/.

Etymology: < metro- comb. form3 + -meter comb. form2. R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1857) gives a Latin form metrometrum. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (mitrǫ·mĭtəɹ) /miːˈtrɒmɪtə(r)/.
Surgery. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
An instrument for measuring the size of the uterus; a uterine sound. Cf. hysterometer n. at hystero- comb. form2 1.
