Origin: Of uncertain origin.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps a misunderstanding of a Tibetan phrase; the element men- may represent Tibetan máṇi mani n.2The term seems not to be in general use among Tibetologists. In Tibetan maṇi'i rdo-'bum, lit. ‘a hundred thousand mani stones’ and maṇi'i rdo-p῾uṅ lit. ‘a mass of mani stones’ appear to be usual.
In Tibet, south-western China: a wall in which are inlaid or incorporated flat stones bearing sacred texts, prayers, or images; = mani wall at mani n.2
