Etymology: < German Mänakan ( C. F. Ludwig Handb. Min. (1803) I. 305), apparently < the place name Menaccan (see menaccanite n.). N.E.D. cites ‘Werner’ without further qualification for a German form Menacan ; similarly, the article cited in quot. a1806¹ equates menacane with ‘Menacan of Werner’. This use has not been traced.

Mineralogy. Obsolete.
