(1839) 18 Science 100 The name Mesit was applied by Reichenbach to a liquid which he met among the products of destructive distillation, and which he took to be pyroacetic spirit;..I shall adopt that denomination, and propose for the pyroacetic spirit the name Mesitic Alcohol. We thus obtain C6H4 mesitylene.

1850 Q. Jrnl. Chem. Soc. 2 104 He [sc. Kane], moreover, obtained a liquid hydrocarbon, which he described under the name of mesitilene (mesitilole).
