A compound isolated by Reichenbach, sometimes identified as acetone. ΚΠ 1838 T. Thomson Chem. Org. Bodies 366 Reichenbach considers mesite as identical with acetone. 1852 W. Gregory Handbk. Org. Chem. (ed. 3) 394 The liquid called mesite by Reichenbach would appear to be acetate of oxide of methyle, MtO + AcO3, mixed with a more highly carbonised body, apparently composed of C26H25O15. 1855 H. Watts tr. L. Gmelin Hand-bk. Chem. IX. 54 According to Berzelius, Reichenbach's mesite is acetate of methyl; in that case, there must be a lighter liquid mixed with it. 1892 New Sydenham Soc.
