单词 bandulu
释义

bandulun.adj.

Brit. /banˈduːluː/, U.S. /bænˈdulu/, Caribbean English /banˈduːluː/
Forms: 1900s– bandalu, 1900s– bandolu, 1900s– bandooloo, 1900s– bandoolu, 1900s– bandulo, 1900s– bandulu, 1900s– banduulu.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a borrowing from Kongo. Etymon: Kongo bandula.
Etymology: Origin uncertain.A borrowing < Kongo bandula to stain, make dirty (physically), or from a related formation from the same stem, has been suggested, but this would pose formal and semantic problems. It has also been suggested that the word is ultimately < Jamaican English bandoo piece of fabric worn round the head, head-tie (1943 or earlier; < French bandeau headband: see bandeau n.), with reference to the use of such a garment as a bandit's mask, but, as well as being semantically somewhat strained, this would not account for the final syllable of the English word.
Jamaican.
