释义

metallidingn.

Brit. /ˈmɛtl̩ʌɪdɪŋ/, U.S. /ˈmɛdlˌaɪdɪŋ/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: metallo- comb. form, -ide suffix, -ing suffix1.
Etymology: < metallo- comb. form + -ide suffix + -ing suffix1.The account of the coinage of metalliding by one of the developers of the process (see quot. 1969) makes no reference to the noun metallide (after Russian metallid), a name used for intermetallic compounds in the Russian chemical literature that appeared rarely in translations from c1966, but never entered English chemical vocabulary:1967 I. I. Kornilov in J. H. Westbrook Intermetallic Compounds xix. 350/1 We prefer to use the term metallides, first proposed by N. S. Kurnakov in 1905, instead of the expression intermetallic compounds... The term ‘metallides’ more correctly reflects the nature of such a class of inorganic compounds.
Manufacturing
The formation of a kind of surface alloy by an electrolytic process in which atoms of one metal diffuse into the surface of another, carried out at high temperature in a bath of molten fluoride salts with the diffusing metal serving as the cathode and the receptor metal as the anode.

1967 Iron Age 22 June 71/1 Metalliding is a high temperature electrolytic technique in which an anode and a cathode are suspended in a molten salt bath. As a direct current is passed from anode [sic] to the cathode, the anode material diffuses into the surface of the cathode, putting on a uniform pore-free coating.
1969 N. C. Cook in Sci. Amer. Aug. 38/3 In such compounds the name of the more metallic element is given first and and is followed by the name of the less metallic one, with the ending changed by the suffix ‘-ide’... We have adopted a similar custom in describing our process: the diffusion of silicon into a metal is siliciding; of beryllium, berylliding, and so forth, so that ‘metalliding’ arises naturally as a general term for the process.
1971 Corrosion 27 55/1 Metalliding involves the electrolytic deposition of a variety of diffusion coatings on metal surfaces.
1987 Jrnl. Appl. Electrochem. 17 261 The electrowinning of stable TaNi3 and NbNi3 layers was carried out by the metalliding process which makes these materials resistant to corrosion in various media.
1990 Materials Sci. & Engin. A. 123 117 (title) Aluminized coating and Al–Y and Al–Ce codeposited coatings obtained by metalliding from molten salt films.
