释义

metalepticadj.

Brit. /ˌmɛtəˈlɛptɪk/, U.S. /ˌmɛdəˈlɛptɪk/
Forms: 1600s metaleptick, 1800s– metaleptic.
Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek μεταληπτικός.

With sense 2, compare Hellenistic Greek μεταληπτικῶς (adverb; also in post-classical Latin (c350) as a Greek word). In sense 3 after metalepsy n. (compare -leptic comb. form). Compare slightly earlier metaleptically adv.In quots. 1656 at sense 1, 1656 at sense 2 Blount gives post-classical Latin metalepticus as the etymon, although the word apparently occurs in Latin writers only as an unnaturalized Greek word.
