Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: methyl n., English -a- , pyril- , -ene comb. form.
Etymology: < meth- (in methyl n.: see note s.v. meth- comb. form) + -a- connective (compare -i- connective) + pyril- (alteration of pyridyl n.) + -ene comb. form.
Pharmacology.
A pyridine derivative once used as an antihistamine and hypnotic, but later recognized to be a potent hepatic carcinogen in rats; N,N-dimethyl-N'-(2-thienylmethyl)-1,2-ethanediamine, C14H19N3S.
