Etymology: < meso- comb. form + axon n. (compare sense 1 at that entry) + -ic suffix; compare earlier homaxonic adj. at homo- comb. form 1 and monaxonic adj.
Zoology.
Of the foot of an ungulate or (in later use) the hand of a primate: having the axis of symmetry running through the central digit.
