单词 memoral
释义

memoraladj.

Forms: late Middle English–1500s memorall.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin memoralis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin memoralis (already as a variant reading of classical Latin memoriālis memorial adj. in some manuscripts of Aulus Gellius (2nd cent. a.d.); 5th cent. in sense ‘mindful’, 9th cent. in sense ‘memorable’, late 12th cent. in a British source) < classical Latin memor mindful (see memory n.) + -ālis -al suffix1. Compare Middle French memoral (1576). The use as noun seems not to be paralleled in Latin or French.
Obsolete.
Perhaps: memorable, notable. (In quot. a1500 apparently: inordinate, excessive.)
