单词 mellaginous
释义

mellaginousadj.

Brit. /mɛˈladʒᵻnəs/, U.S. /ˌməˈlædʒənəs/
Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: Latin mell- , mel , mucilaginous adj.
Etymology: Probably < classical Latin mell-, mel honey (see mell n.2) + -aginous (in e.g. mucilaginous adj.), after Latin adjectives corresponding to nouns in -āgō ; post-classical Latin mellagin- , mellago ‘medicine which has the consistency and sweetness of honey’ is apparently first attested only in R. Hooper Lexicon Medicum (ed. 4, 1820), although this may be the source of the use in quot. 1833.
rare. Perhaps Obsolete.
Resembling or of the nature of honey.
