Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mégasème.
Etymology: < French mégasème (P. Broca in a paper presented in 1874 in Lille to the Association Française pour l'Avancement des Sciences but unpublished until 1883) < méga- mega- comb. form + sème seme n. Compare mesoseme adj., microseme adj.
Physical Anthropology. Now rare.
Of the orbit of a person's eye: having a large orbital index, spec. having an orbital index greater than 89. Of a person, a person's skull, etc.: characterized by such an orbital index. Also as n.
