Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Megasea.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Megasea, genus name (A. H. Haworth in Saxifragëarum Enumeratio (1821) 6) < ancient Greek μέγας large (see mega- comb. form), in reference to the large leaves of the plant + -ea , element of arbitrary origin (compare perhaps -a suffix1 1).
Now historical.
A plant of the genus Megasea (now included in the genus Bergenia); a bergenia.
