1973 J. Quick Dict. Weapons & Mil. Terms 299 Meaconing, a system of receiving radio-beacon signals and rebroadcasting them on the same frequency to confuse navigation. The meaconing stations cause inaccurate bearings to be obtained by aircraft or ground stations.
1986 S. T. Wesselhoff in B. W. Watson & S. M. Watson Soviet Navy xiv. 158 Meaconing can be used to create confusion or to lure aircraft to areas where they are vulnerable to enemy attack.
1988 Aviation Week 19 Sept. 103/2 Another division in the Operations Directorate is called MIJI—meaconing, intrusion, jamming and interference. Meaconing, the emission of spurious radio-navigation signals, was used by the USSR in the 1950s and 1960s.
