Mazzarothn.

Brit. /ˈmazərɒθ/, U.S. /ˈmæzəˌrɔθ/
Forms: 1500s– Mazzaroth, 1600s Mazzeroth, 1600s– Mazaroth.
Origin: A borrowing from Hebrew. Etymons: Hebrew mazzārōṯ, mazzār, mazzāl.
Etymology: < Hebrew mazzārōṯ, plural of mazzār constellation, zodiac (only Job 38:32 in plural), probably variant of mazzāl star (see mazel n.).
Chiefly poetic.
(a) With plural agreement. The twelve signs of the zodiac. (b) With singular agreement. The star Sirius; (also) the constellation Canis Major (which contains Sirius). Also (occasionally) applied to other individual stars or constellations. Now rare. The singular uses apparently arise from misinterpretation of the plural Hebrew form in Job 38:32.
