单词 melanuric
释义

melanuricadj.1

Brit. /ˌmɛləˈnjʊərɪk/, U.S. /ˌmɛləˈn(j)ʊrɪk/
Forms: 1800s mellanuric, 1800s– melanuric.
Origin: A borrowing from German, combined with an English element. Etymons: German Melanurensäure , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < melanur- (in German Melanurensäure: see below) + -ic suffix.German Melanurensäure was apparently coined by J. von Liebig 1855, in Jrnl. f. Prakt. Chem. 3 454; it is apparently < an altered form of Melon mellon n. (which Liebig spells Mellon in this article) + -uren- , an element apparently modelled on urea n. or French urée (compare Cyanursäure cyanuric acid) + Säure acid. N.E.D. (1906) s.v. asserts that German Melanurensäure is ‘Liebig's alteration of Henneberg's term (1850) mellanurensäure’; this has not been traced, but compare Liebig's statement below:1855 Ann. der Chem. u. Pharm.
Chemistry. Now rare.
melanuric acid n. an organic compound obtained as a white chalky powder when urea is heated, originally compared to ammelide, C3H4N4O2, and later identified with it.
