Etymology: < French méconate (F. W. Sertuerner 1817, in Ann. de chim. et de physique 5 32) < mécon- (in méconique meconic adj.) + -ate -ate suffix1.Earliest as meconiate, probably showing remodelling of the French word after meconium n.
Chemistry. Now rare.
A salt or ester of meconic acid.
