Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps < ballis- (in ballister , variant of baluster n.) + -ed suffix1, or perhaps irregularly < French palliser palis v. + -ed suffix1 (compare palised adj. at palis v. Derivatives).
Obsolete. rare.
Enclosed with a railing or balustrade.
