mauveinen.

Brit. /ˈməʊviːn/, U.S. /ˈmɔˌvin/, /ˈmoʊˌvin/, /ˈmɑˌvin/

Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: mauve n., -ine suffix5.
Etymology: < mauve n. + -ine suffix5; apparently coined by W. H. Perkin: see quot. 1863, and compare note s.v. mauve n. Compare French mauvéine (1877). N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (mō·vin) /ˈməʊvɪn/.
Chemistry. Now historical.
A purple aniline dye; = mauve n. 2. Also: the basic substance of which the dye is a salt. The structure of mauveine was long misunderstood.
