Etymology: < classical Latin mausōlēum mausoleum n. + -an suffix. Compare Middle French mausoliien (c1512).
1. In form Mausolean. Of or relating to Mausolus, governor of Caria in Asia Minor c377–353 b.c.; spec. designating or reminiscent of the magnificent tomb built for him by his widow Artemesia (see mausoleum n. 1). Also in extended use. Now rare.
