Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Mauritanicus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Mauritanicus < classical Latin Maurītānia (see Mauritanian adj. and n.) + -icus -ic suffix. Classical Latin Maurētānicus is attested only once, on a coin from the reign of Hadrian (2nd cent. a.d.).
