1975 Nature 27 Feb. 686/1 A period of almost complete absence of sunspots which occurred from about 1645 to 1715. This ‘Maunder minimum’ was discovered in the early years of the century.

1980 Nature 31 Jan. 427/2 Nineteen different fang chih contribute 21 previously unknown naked-eye sunspot records from the seventeenth century, of which six fall into the period claimed by Eddy as the time of the Maunder Minimum.

1992 Astronomy May 44/1 Pushing the study of spot activity back even further..suggests that the Sun spends about one-third of its time in such Maunder minima.
