单词 | martempering |
释义 | martemperingn. Metallurgy. A method of tempering steel that reduces its tendency to crack or distort, by rapid quenching to a temperature just above that at which martensite begins to form, allowing the temperature to equalize throughout (esp. long enough for the isothermal transformation of austenite to martensite to begin), and then cooling slowly. F. Shepherd in Iron Age 28 Jan. 50/1 Martempering is a term used to describe a heat treating operation whereby martensite is produced with a minimum of residual hardening strains. 1943 B. F. Shepherd in Metal Progress July 105/2 I have coined the term ‘martempering’ to describe this operation of hardening by cooling quickly. 1953 L. Aitchison & W. I. Pumphrey Engin.
