Etymology: Either < the name of Masuria (from late 19th cent.; German Masuren , Polish Mazury ) + -an suffix, or directly < Masur- (in German Masuren) + -ian suffix, after German masurisch (frequently in die masurischen Seen the Masurian Lakes). Compare mazurka n.
