Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Greek μαστιγοϕόρος , -ic suffix, Mastigophora n.
Etymology: In sense 1 < ancient Greek μαστιγοϕόρος (see mastigophorous adj.) + -ic suffix; in sense 2 < Mastigophora n. + -ic suffix.
