Origin: A borrowing from Persian. Etymon: Persian baḵtyārī.
Etymology: < Persian baḵtyārī, self-designation < baḵtyār fortunate ( < baḵt fortune, prosperity + yār friend: see yaar n.) + , suffix expressing belonging, also used to form the names of peoples.
