释义 | mastheadingn. Nautical. Now historical. The action or practice of sending a sailor to the masthead as a summary punishment for a minor crime or misdemeanour. This punishment, which combined public ridicule and disgrace with exposure to the elements (as the offender was given no time to collect his coat, hat, food, or water) could only be ordered by the ship's captain or the officer of the watch (if of sufficient seniority).
