Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French Marie Louise.
Etymology: < French Marie Louise (see quot. 1817; perhaps so named by the Abbé Duquesne of Mons in 1809) < the name of Marie Louise (1791–1847), Austrian archduchess who became Empress of the French as the second wife of Napoleon I.
A variety of yellow-skinned pear. Also Marie Louise pear.
