单词 martyrization
释义

martyrizationn.

Brit. /ˌmɑːt(ə)rʌɪˈzeɪʃn/, U.S. /ˌmɑrdərəˈzeɪʃən/, /ˌmɑrdəˌraɪˈzeɪʃən/
Forms: late Middle English martirizacion, 1600s–1700s 1900s– martyrization.
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin martyrization- , martyrizatio ; martyrize v., -ation suffix.
Etymology: In early use < post-classical Latin martyrization-, martyrizatio (from a1100 in British sources in sense 1; from 15th cent. in sense 2) < martyrizat- , past participial stem of martyrizare martyrize v. + -io -ion suffix1 (compare martyrizate v., martyrizate adj.); in later use probably independently < martyrize v. + -ation suffix. Compare Old French or Middle French martirization (in an undated text in F. Godefroy Dict. de l'ancienne langue française (1880 1902)), French martyrisation (1610).
