Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi maṭar panīr.
Etymology: < Hindi maṭar panīr (and its equivalents in Panjabi, Urdu, etc.) < maṭar pea (see mattar n. + panīr cheese (see paneer n.).
In Indian cookery: a dish of peas and paneer cheese, typically made with a sauce of tomatoes, onions, and various spices.
