单词 manufact
释义

manufactadj.n.

Brit. /ˈmanjᵿfakt/, U.S. /ˈmæn(j)əˌfækt/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin manūfactus.
Etymology: < classical Latin manūfactus, adjective (used as noun in the Vulgate translation of Acts 7:48, after ancient Greek χειροποίητος (Herodotus onwards; common in the Septuagint)) < manū , ablative singular of manus hand (see manus n.1) + factus , past participle of facere to make (see fact n., int., and adv.).The relationships between this word and the closely related manufaction n., manufactor n., manufactory n., and manufactory adj. are not clear; they perhaps represent several separate borrowings from the classical Latin word. The derivation of manufacture n. appears to be distinct: see discussion at that entry.
